Add chat to OBS

Streamers

BEAM gives you two chat pages to use in OBS. Both show Unichat: your BEAM chat together with the chat from every platform you multistream to.

Page Use it for
/<your-channel>/obs-chat The quickest overlay. Transparent and ready to use, with nothing to set up.
/<your-channel>/chat An overlay you style yourself, or a chat dock you can type in.

The obs-chat page is built for going on stream as it is: a transparent background, large text, colored names, and each platform’s logo in its own color next to messages from that platform. It shows messages only, without alerts like follows or subs.

  1. In OBS, click + under Sources and choose Browser.

  2. Name it BEAM Chat and click OK.

  3. For URL, enter your overlay link:

    https://beamstream.gg/your-channel/obs-chat
  4. Set Width to 650 and Height to 380, a good starting size. Click OK.

  5. Drag the overlay to where you want it in your scene.

If you open this link in a regular browser, it shows a note asking you to add it to OBS instead. The chat only appears inside OBS.

To choose what your chat overlay looks like (colors, avatars, timestamps and more), use the chat page instead. You style it from inside OBS, and OBS keeps your settings.

  1. Add a Browser source as in Quick setup, with this URL:

    https://beamstream.gg/your-channel/chat
  2. Set Width to 650 and Height to 380, click OK, and position it. It starts out with a solid background; you will change that next.

  3. Right-click the source in Sources and choose Interact. A window opens with your chat in it.

  4. Move your mouse over the chat and click the cog at the top right to open Chat Settings.

  5. Under Messages, pick what each message shows: names, avatars, badges, time, colored names and a large font size.

  6. Under Appearance, set the message and text colors. To make the background see-through, open the Page background color picker and drag its bottom slider all the way to the left.

  7. Close the settings and the Interact window. Your overlay keeps its new look.

You can also keep chat open inside OBS while you stream, as a panel you can read and type in.

  1. In OBS, open Docks → Custom Browser Docks.

  2. Enter BEAM Chat as the Dock Name, and your chat link as the URL:

    https://beamstream.gg/your-channel/chat
  3. Click Apply, then drag the new panel to wherever you want it in OBS.

Unlike the overlay, the dock shows the message box, so you can reply to chat without leaving OBS. If it asks you to sign in, sign in to BEAM inside the dock.
